Throwing, Hanging, and Flying.

Hey all! My piercer and friend from Evolved has told me about a suspension show that will be taking place at Outland on Liberty on October 9th. I still need to get together with him to get more specifics, but I'll definitely be going: for photo ops, footage, documentation, experience, and inspiration. All of you are welcome to join, if interested, to get a sneak peak into the wonderful world of body mods.

And, in case you're wondering, throwing is the act of placing hooks in the body before a suspension, hanging is the actual act of suspending, and flying is the single most used word that people use to describe their experience of suspending. Enjoy!

  1. This might be a dumb question.. But when they are throwing they are sticking the hooks straight through skin right? A girl that I worked with had piercings already that she said she could have used to suspend herself from but she never did. Is it still throwing if they are just putting the hooks into a "hoop" or whatever they already have in a piercing?

  2. Not a stupid question! That's not still considered throwing. And you can't hang from already existent piercings unless it's pierced with a titanium hook at a gauge of 8 or larger. Anything smaller, like the jewelry in navel or ear piercings, would simply tear the skin if you tried to hang from it.

For an idea of how big an 8 gauge piece of jewelry would be:
Typical navel (belly button) jewelry is 14 gauge.
    Typical earrings are 18 gauge.
Hooks for throwing are 8 gauge.

**The smaller the number, the larger the jewelry.

If your friend has any piercings with 8 gauge jewelry in them, it would be possible to replace them with suspension hooks for her to suspend. If not, she would need to stretch ("gauge") to a larger size, first.

    Hope that helps =]
